Our approach is non-traditional, having been specifically designed with an eye to efficiency, productive research training, strengthened personal intellect, and multiple experiences that enrich the student’s confidence and facilitates a more seamless transition into the academic or clinical workplace.
To support this goal, we emphasize publications, presentations, and the ability to develop and execute lucid research plans. We also expect the mentors to take on a much more aggressive role in guiding the student through the process. The interaction between mentors and their students is a crucial component of our program. The mentor is responsible to be an advisor, a teacher, a role model, and even, if need be, a disciplinarian.
In the last few decades, tremendous strides have been made in understanding how the biological world works. New technologies have changed the way scientists, researchers and educators approach various biological topics. It is acknowledged that new findings must be quickly and effectively translated* into their clinical applications.
Given the rapidity with which information must be disseminated, especially in the electronic world, our program includes electronic data recording and a host of recording conversance (i.e., video and video streaming, soundtrack, CD and DVD skills) that appropriately serve the laboratory - be it in lab bench work, clinical, industrial or military settings. These electronic skills also apply to the methods used for dissemination of the findings and their interpretation.
Master’s and doctoral graduate students in biomedicine at Salus will be trained and then challenged to demonstrate effective means of reviewing the literature; of finding and mastering the most specific and sensitive techniques; of producing and managing data with sensitivity to quality assurance; ethical and confidentiality mandates, and to publish findings using methods that maintain the integrity of the research and its interpretation.
We are proud to offer the University’s first PhD program. We welcome students with a strong commitment to scholarship, leadership and a desire to be on the leading edge not only of scientific exploration and applications, but its practical utilization. It is my sincere hope that you will leave us with the intellectual rigor and the personal commitment to enjoy your future career of scholarship and stewardship of your chosen discipline.
