Salus University encourages the community at large to take advantage of the fresh start prompted by the end of a year and the beginning of a New Year. Now is the time to reinforce positive habits that have possibly slowly dwindled away over the past several months. With that being said, here are some tips on how to be the best you in 2018!
Take time to reflect.
Look back on your memories, work and schooling from this past year and pat yourself on the back for what you have achieved. Also take the time to note where you may have fallen short in your prior resolutions.
Let go of negativity.
Enter 2018 with a positive outlook. Forgive yourself and others for their mistakes and distance yourself from destructive influences. Gradually let go of your negative habits as much as possible.
Meet new people.
Make it a point to travel this year or branch out of your comfort zone. Join a new club or organization if you are a student at Salus or volunteer for a local community event. Strive to build new relationships and make more connections in 2018.
Set new goals.
Brainstorm and write down things you hope to accomplish this year – at work, at home, in school and beyond. Print out a calendar and fill it in with tasks you hope to complete by certain dates. Be realistic and develop a plan that will lead you to your desired outcome.
Maintain a healthy lifestyle.
When it comes to your health, don’t be afraid to put yourself first. Join a local gym or sign up for exercise classes that work with your schedule. The University’s Hafter Student Center organizes monthly group exercise classes, which include Kung Fu, Bootcamp, Strength Circuits and more right on campus. It is never too late to make changes. Eat less sugar and take notice of your diet. Don’t forget to get enough sleep and make time for yourself.
Volunteer at your local church, hospital, or a community event organized by Salus. Sign up for fundraising walks or contribute to charitable organizations such as the University’s Looking Out for Kids
initiative. Helping others is a gift in itself. Even if you are unable to meet your personal goals by the end of the year, you will be able to look back and notice that you did at least one good thing in 2018.
Spend more time with loved ones.
Prioritize your loved ones this year. Plan trips with family and friends and be sure to get together as often as you can. Support your loved ones and make sure that they know they can count on you when they are in need.
Take up a new hobby.
Sign up for that yoga or art class that you have always wanted to do. Teach yourself something new and share your newfound hobby with others.
Spend less time on social media.
Spend less time recording what you are doing and more time doing it! Studies show that social media has negative effects on our mental health. Socialize in person and don’t get hung up on comparing your life to others’.
Don’t wait until the end of the year to get a jumpstart on your New Year’s resolutions. Every step toward your goal counts and no step is too small.
Salus University wishes you all a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year and encourages you to be the best you in 2018.
