CAA on Campus:
On Thursday, March 14, the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology visited the Elkins Park campus to review the Department of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) as part of the accreditation process. CAA team members held a public meeting to provide a forum for discussion and comment about the SLP program, in which members of the Salus community were encouraged to attend.
Christie Okoshi, a student in the Low Vision Rehabilitation Program in BLVS, presented at the 2019 California State University - Northridge (CSUN) Assistive Technology Conference on the topic of Introductory Selection Methods for Low Vision Assistive Technology Devices.
: Salus joined Drexel Ophthalmology and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) on an interdisciplinary Continuing Education Program on March 24. Ryan Kern ‘18OD, Resident ’19, and Andrew Meagher, OD, FAAO, instructor, presented disease cases with Ophthalmology residents from Drexel and PCOM. Dr. Michael Mittelman, Salus president, presented an interdisciplinary approach to eye care and participated in a panel discussion entitled Where Do You See Your Practice in 2019 and Beyond? PCO faculty Jeffrey Nyman OD, FAAO, associate professor, and Richard Brilliant, OD, FAAO, professor, presented on emergency eye care and low vision rehabilitation. The 2018-2019 on-campus residency class also attended along with Bhawan Minhas, OD, FAAO, director of On-Campus Residency Programs; Maria Parisi, OD, FAAO, associate dean for Optometric Clinical Affairs; Laine Higa, OD, assistant professor; and Navpreet Hehar, OD, instructor.
The first in a long time – a reception for the 2019 student scholarship recipients was held in late March where students who received scholarships were celebrated. Dr. Mittelman and faculty members as well as staff from the Offices of Financial Aid, Student Affairs, and Institutional Advancement were in attendance to congratulate those who received scholarships.
