Associate dean for Graduate Programs in Biomedicine, Dr. William Monaco, announced that yesterday in Elkins Park, Michael Baertschi, MSCO '97, MEd, of Switzerland and Dr. Mitchell Scheiman, Salus dean of Research, successfully completed their PhD qualifying examinations or VIVAs, a key comprehensive exam that reviews students' preliminary dissertation theory and work. A student must pass the VIVA in order to complete their pursuit of a PhD degree. Congratulations to both of them!

(Mr. Baertschi is shown at a base camp on one of several climbs around the world - that have included Mt Everest - to measure pressure in the retina at high elevation to determine vascular parameters that are affected by altitude).
