JOB SUMMARY: This is an executive position serving at the pleasure of the Utah State Board of Education. This position exerts a direct and substantial effect on public relations, public advocacy, and defense of administrative policy. This position provides for the general supervision, direction, functions, programs and activities in accordance with Utah Code and directives from the Utah State Board of Education. This position provides leadership in the development and evaluation of program effectiveness; prepares, presents and administers the budget; interrelates with agencies providing school support. This position has some direct supervisory responsibilities and also represents USDB on councils, committees and other groups.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS: The successful candidate must provide progressive educational leadership; have demonstrated skill in human resource management principles and techniques; cost/benefit analysis and budgeting techniques; organizational and human relations; effective communication skills; interpersonal behavior; decision making; motivation and employee performance; and have a knowledge of Special Education practice and law. The successful candidate must also have the ability to direct and supervise all functions and activities of a large and complex educational institution; develop, refine, administer and control a budget; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; deal and relate effectively with administrators, staff, parents and students.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Candidates must have a minimum of a master’s degree in educational administration, special education, educational psychology or closely related fields. Candidates must hold or be able to obtain an administrative/supervisory license in the state of Utah. Candidates must also demonstrate successful experience in administration of educational programs.
Preference given to: Preference may be given to: Candidates with a related doctorate degree and successful experience in administration of programs serving deaf, blind and deafblind students, as well as candidates with American Sign Language (ASL) and/or Braille skills.
