"Ally and I met when I was his admissions tour guide. I was in my first year in the Doctor of Optometry – Accelerated Scholars program and did work study for admissions. I encouraged him to return for his interview for the Scholars program since I was in the program myself and knew he’d be a good fit."

"For the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) graduates starting in the late 1930s well into the 1970s, Dr. Rybachok “Rybie” was an icon. Rybie taught anatomy to my class in the early 1970s. By that time, he was at the end of his teaching career and apparently had mellowed quite a bit. I remember him as a gentle man and a gentleman. Rybie’s earliest students described him as someone I did not recognize."

"One of my fondest memories at PCO is sitting at a table hearing Larry Gray, OD ’72 and Dr. Lorraine Lombardi discussing a neuro case. I felt privileged and was in awe of the amount of knowledge that was being shared among two of the greatest minds in neuro."

"Some of my favorite PCO memories include making new friends who quickly became my PCO family, life in Wentka Hall, student activity parties in Fitch Hall and practicing for practicals, just to name a few!"

"I chose audiology because I felt a true sense of calling. My husband and his identical twin were born eleven weeks prematurely and his twin brother is deaf. I was amazed when I met his brother that he was deaf yet he could speak."

"There are lots of fond memories. This hilarious one stands out. Ours was the first class to go to PCO during the summer months since WWII was going on."

"My family eye doctor was Harvey Horowitz, OD ’53. He changed my life when he fit me with contact lenses in the summer of 1975. Everything he told me made me excited about the field, but what really I wanted the opportunity to help kids like me: to help change their lives, and to make a difference in people's lives as Dr. Horowitz had made in mine. I was hooked, and from that moment Optometry was where I was going."

"Realizing that I am currently the longest serving employee at Salus/PCO, I feel obligated to share some of my experiences for this historic 100 year celebration of the institution. Even though I graduated with the class of 1975, I have been serving as a faculty member since 1971 as I had an optometric degree from India and some graduate work at Berkeley."

"I have many favorite memories, however, Dr. Audrey Smith's low vision classes were always some of my favorite. She used to keep us for hours (past class time) because she had so much she wanted to teach us. She was a wealth of knowledge, and such a personable professor. She will always be my favorite, and she used to bribe us to stay longer in class by buying us pizza. At the time, we thought we made out because of the pizza, however, in retrospect it was all the low vision knowledge that she taught us that was the real prize!"

"I enjoyed working with audiologists and professors all over the United States during my time at Salus University. One of my first classes, Hearing Loss and Syndromes, was one of the hardest, yet rewarding, classes."

"Over the last four years, not only did I find a school that provided one of the best optometric educations I could have received, but I was also able to find a group of friends that I believe will be some of my lifelong friends. We spent endless days and nights in classes and clinic, studying until we couldn’t fit anything else into our brains for the day and enjoying each other’s company while working towards our goals."

"I chose optometry because I never forgot the feeling of what it was like seeing trees with leaves on them and not just a green blur. The fact that our profession was evolving and that I was going to be on staff at PCO was a real perk. I chose Salus/PCO because it was reputed to have the best clinical experience – a fact that hasn’t changed over the years."
