Throwback Thursday: Creative Competition in Pursuit of the Crystal Trophy

Although the name may have changed since its inception in 1991, the concept remains the same – battle to be the smartest, loudest and most creative group in the annual Optometry Student Bowl. Held at Optometry’s Meeting every June, the game-show style competition pins a champion from each of the optometry schools against the others to see who can be not only the fastest to buzz in, but with the right answer too.

The grand prize: the coveted crystal trophy. Here’s a throwback to two of the most recent winners from the University’s Pennsylvania College of Optometry: Nicole Rist, OD ’16 and Ian McWherter, OD ’12 and the presentation of the Crystal Trophy which was displayed on the Elkins Park campus for the year following their respective wins.

Annie Govan ‘20OD will represent PCO in the 28th annual AOSA Optometry Student Bowl, powered by Essilor, on Thursday, June 20 in St. Louis, Mo.
