It is with great sadness that Salus announces the recent passing of Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) alumnus Dr. Morey Powell. He passed away on June 13, 2019, at the age of 104.
Earlier this year, the American Optometric Association (AOA) National Optometry Hall of Fame Selection Committee announced four optometrists who will be inducted into the National Optometry Hall of Fame today at a ceremony during Optometry’s Meeting in St. Louis, Mo. University president, Michael H. Mittelman, OD, MPH, MBA, FAAO, FACHE will be among the four. He will accept his award next year at Optometry’s Meeting 2020 in Washington, D.C.
Stepping out of the classroom and putting knowledge to the test is often times the best gift a professor can give their students. In this case, assistant professor within the University’s Occupational Therapy (OT) program, Anna Grasso, MS, OTR/L, CAPS, decided that a partnership with Rebuilding Together Philadelphia (RTP) was the best way for her students to learn while also giving back to the community.
Last week, a representative from CulinArt Group, the University’s dining service provider, visited the Learning Resource Center (LRC) to educate our students about how to use food and exercise to alleviate stress.
Raised by a family whose optometric legacy has spanned generations, it’s easy to be influenced to follow in their footsteps, but for the Crozier-Fitzgerald family, that legacy isn’t necessarily to become an optometrist, it’s to commit yourself to serve others.
