The University community was saddened by the news of the passing of emeritus Board of Trustee member, Mr. Edward Kelley Hueber, on June 10. A member of the Board of Trustees of Pennsylvania College of Optometry from 1981 until 2005, he was 95 at the time of his death.
A 1994 recipient of the PCO President’s Medal, given on the occasion of PCO’s 75th anniversary, and a 1984 recipient of the PCO Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award for his many years of dedicated service to the College, Mr. Hueber was president of the optical firm Kelley and Hueber from 1947 until it was sold in 1971. The firm was founded in 1873 and made eyeglass frames and cases.
A native of Philadelphia, a graduate of Lower Merion High School and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Hueber was a past national president of the Optical Manufacturers Association. An athlete, he also was captain of the Yale University swim team during its undefeated seasons of 1946-1947, when they won the intercollegiate championship.
Mr. Hueber is survived by his wife, Josephine, sons W. Graham and Franz II and two grandsons. He was predeceased by his son, Christian.
