Pelashia Moore Rhodes ‘18OD was awarded the 2016 J. Pat Cummings Scholarship from the American Optometric Foundation (AOF) in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc.
“I’m very honored to receive this award and thankful for the selection committee,” she said.
The $1,000 award and plaque are bestowed annually to a second or third year optometry student at each of the North American Schools and colleges of optometry. Melissa Trego OD ‘04, PhD, interim dean of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, said choosing this year’s nominee was easy.
“Pelashia is a student leader, truly a natural,” she said. “She really makes PCO proud.”
According to the AOF, each recipient “best demonstrates the ideal eye care standards of practice, achievement in both academic performance and extra-curricular activities, and participation with other professional pursuits such as involvement with patients through internships, community service, and other volunteer activities.”
