The 2017 Singapore cohort of 14 international students were officially welcomed as Salus alumni after completing their Master of Science in Clinical Optometry (MSCO) program
. The University held a special commencement ceremony and alumni reception at the Hotel Jen Tanglin in Singapore led by President Dr. Michael H. Mittelman and director of International and Continuing Education Dr. Melissa Vitek.
Salus has now conferred more than 100 MSCO degrees on Singapore students. This graduating class also included Xinlei Kang, the first MSc student to be accepted into the University’s Advanced Placement Doctor of Optometry program
on the University’s Elkins Park campus. He will begin his studies this August.
Dr. Vitek is proud of the students and all they’ve accomplished during their program. She said the students especially valued the ability to share their achievements with their loved ones at home.
“They are all very motivated and hard-working,” she said. “They were very appreciative of the opportunity to celebrate in Singapore with their friends and family.”
The MSCO program
is designed for international optometric practitioners. The cohort-modeled program provides the didactic and clinical experience for international optometric practitioners aimed to elevate their current skills and knowledge base. Students learn the didactic components of the program in Singapore, while the hands-on clinical curriculum and patient experiences occur during extended periods on the Salus University campus and at The Eye Institute.
