A Message From PCO’s Dean to Our Dedicated Alumni

Here’s a special message for our alumni from Josephine Ibironke, OD '03, Resident '04, MPH, FAAO, dean of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO). In this video, she highlights how PCO alumni are leaders in excellence and in taking care of patients and how their continued support and referrals of prospective students help shape the next generation of optometric leaders from PCO.

Dear Alumni:

My name is Josephine Ibironke and I serve as the dean of PCO at Drexel. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our dedicated alumni. I have been enjoying our engagement so far and I look forward to continuing to engage with you.

Dr. I. updated headshot2026Now that we are merged, we are able to leverage many of the things Drexel has and has been successful at over many, many years. We now have more resources for our students. The impact that we have is more far-reaching so not only do we stand as one of the colleges at Drexel, we also have collaborations with those colleges. An example of this has been teaming up with the Dornsife School of Public Health. This is where we will continue to shine, this is where we will continue to be a beacon of how we continue to practice and educate our students.

You cannot get to any part of the world where there is optometry being practiced and not find a PCO graduate. Our reputation is so strong because of the fact that we’ve been around since 1919. We were one of the first schools of optometry. We have always been the leaders in innovation, the leaders in how we take care of our patients, the leaders in excellence, and the leaders in clinical preparation of our students.

And I’m so glad that I now get to be the dean at the institution that I graduated from.

The Pennsylvania College of Optometry shaped who I am today and it can do the same for the next generation. If you know a prospective student with a passion for eye care, refer them to the Office of Admissions in Elkins Park and help open the door to an incredible future.
