Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. James Caldwell has announced the appointment of Abram Doane, MA, MHA, JD, as coordinator of the Office for Academic Success (OAS)
for the University.
“Abram brings a wealth of knowledge and experience related to the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973,” said Dr. Caldwell. “He will ensure that student accessibility and requests for reasonable accommodations are appropriately evaluated and implemented.”
Mr. Doane earned his undergraduate degree in Public and Community Health from Northern Illinois University and holds a master’s degree in Health Administration (MHA) and a Juris Doctorate (JD) from Washington University in St. Louis. He earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree in learning disabilities in 2000 from Northwestern University, where he was a member of the faculty for six years. Additionally, Mr. Doane holds a certificate in mediation from the University of Delaware.
After working at the University of Illinois Health System, Northern Illinois University, and in private practice, Mr. Doane directed disability services and ADA compliance for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and other testing programs at the National Board of Medical Examiners for several years.
He has served as a consultant to many institutions of higher education and testing agencies. He also has experience as a psychoeducational diagnostician, tutor, and special education consultant.
