President’s Medal Recipients

donald-teig-headshot1Many people have been part of the proud history of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) and Salus University.  Alumni, faculty, and friends of the College helped establish PCO as a pioneer and leader in the field of optometric education and the profession of optometry. The following people - highlighted on Medal Mondays - were honored on May 20, 1995 at the 75th Anniversary Gala Celebration for their outstanding contributions to the College and the field of optometry and vision care.

During the weekend of the Centennial Gala Celebration, additional alumni, faculty, and friends were honored.


Donald S. Teig, OD '70, FAAO

Dr. Teig is the true guru in the field of Visual-Neurocognitive Training. He began his career with 15 teams in Major League Baseball in 1980 and has evaluated and trained athletes from virtually every sport in his career including five NBA teams, three NHL teams, three NFL Teams, Pro Tennis and Golf tours, many Olympic teams and Joffrey Ballet.

donald-teig-headshot2He is the founder and medical director of “The A Team” – High Performance Vision Associates, a 65-member group of elite sports medicine professionals that, since its inception five years ago, has worked with a diverse array of athlete. He is also co-founder and partner in Visual Cognitive Technologies, LLC, the developers of the A.M.P. System (Achieving Maximum Potential), an immersive virtual reality technology that provides real training opportunities for athletes, military, law enforcement and motor vehicle operators.

Dr. Teig is the executive director of “The I Gym,” a cutting-edge visual performance training center in Sunrise, Fla. “The I Gym” is the exclusive vision care providers for the NHL Florida Panthers Hockey team. He is the author of the just published book, “High Performance Vision,” from Square One Publishers, written for athletes running the gamut from youth sports, weekend warriors, elite athletes and the pros.

He is currently the concept developer and producer of the new rock ‘n roll musical, “Personality” (The Lloyd Price musical) headed for Broadway as well as a technical consultant to “The Wanderer,” the Dion DiMucci musical.
