University Faculty Development is a bi-annual gathering of faculty members from across the Salus community, providing professional development opportunities, important group discussions, and the chance to connect with fellow colleagues.
The event kicked off on Thursday night with a reception held at the Hafter Student Center, where provost Dr. Janice Scharre introduced new faculty members and congratulated others on achieving tenure and promotions. Dr. Victor Bray, former dean of the Osborne College of Audiology, and Dr. Audrey Smith, dean of the College of Education and Rehabilitation, were recognized by faculty and staff for their outstanding contributions and significant impressions each has imparted on their respective programs. In addition, provost Scharre recognized esteemed faculty and staff members with signature gag gifts, including “The Wears Many Hats Gift” and “The First to RSVP To a Party Gift”, which proved amusing to the crowd.
On Friday morning, University Faculty Development Day began with a workshop hosted by Dr. John Littlefield, adjunct professor from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, on “Making Clinical Learning More Efficient and Effective”. The workshop described the evolution of teaching and learning methods in educating health professionals, recalled past experiences with learning and teaching in a clinical setting, and explained cognitive apprenticeship. Faculty members were also able to practice their clinical teaching skills in role-play scenarios. Following the workshop was a multi-disciplinary Concussion Symposium led by Dr. Mitchell Scheiman, dean of Research, with a keynote address from Dr. Christina Master from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
