Throughout his naval career, Dr. Cowan served as an academician, practitioner, researcher and teacher with numerous tours of duty around the world. He accepted the invitation to be the keynote speaker of the White Coat Ceremony not only because he believes the ceremony itself is a great idea - celebrating the onset of something – but also because of his close association with University President Michael H. Mittelman, OD ’80, MPH, MBA, FAAO, FACHE.
When Graham Seering, ‘21PA, stepped onto the stage to get his white coat, there were audible gasps throughout the audience. Standing at six feet, seven inches tall, Seering could very well be the tallest person in this year’s incoming group of students. And it may have occurred to more than one audience member, “Do they have a white coat big enough to fit this guy?”
The resource fair is a way for students to not only meet different service departments on campus – like the technology and learning resource Center, the Center for Personal and Professional Development, the on-campus clinical facilities – but also external organizations brought in by the University such as insurance companies, Temple Physicians clinic, and Campus Philly, which provides information about the Philadelphia area to the students.

As the founder of Salus University’s Looking Out for Kids (LOFK) vision care charity fundraiser, one of Dr. Susan Oleszewski’s primary roles was to ensure that there were enough resources every year to provide comprehensive vision care services and eyeglasses to disadvantaged children in the region. Fortunately, Dr. Oleszewski developed a long-standing relationship with Alan Lindy, president of Lindy Communities, which has proven to be a huge benefit for the LOFK program ever since.
