New Students Have Arrived on Campus to Begin Writing Their Salus Story
Salus University recently extended a warm, enthusiastic welcome to its incoming class, as more than 320 first-year students arrived on campus for orientation and the beginning of their graduate school experience. Salus student ambassadors, student council representatives and volunteers were easy to spot in bright turquoise shirts, as they energetically welcomed their new classmates and provided direction to crucial information sessions and exciting on-campus activities.
Orientation began with a sincere welcome by Salus University president Dr. Michael H. Mittelman, and Dr. Janice Scharre, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs. Deans and directors provided significant program overviews and shared enlightening perspectives on specific educational offerings while Monica Maisto, director of Admissions, introduced each incoming class and reviewed their profiles. Dr. Susan Oleszewski, vice president for Institutional Advancement and Community Engagement, also unveiled the University's mascot for the first time, Sal the Salamander, who made appearances on materials throughout the week. The remainder of the week was filled with program introductions, novel icebreaker activities, trivia night, a Student Council sponsored Carnival Night, and a trip to a Philadelphia Phillies game, expertly coordinated by the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs.
The purpose of orientation is to familiarize students with the standards of the University and their particular programs, as well as offer advice on making the most of their Salus experience. Orientation week is designed to introduce students to important resources critical to their personal and academic success, as well as provide the opportunity to get to know faculty and fellow students. As Maisto said of this year’s orientation, “We’re thrilled to welcome our incoming class to the Salus University family! The Salus approach to orientation streamlines how information is distributed, and provides important experiences to each first- year student while catering to their program-specific needs. We look forward to having a great year!”
