Elkins Park Campus Counseling Center: New Name, Same Great Services

The name and on-campus office location may have changed, but students can rest assured they still have the opportunity to receive top-notch mental health services.

What used to be known as the Center for Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) is now called the Counseling Center, Elkins Park Campus. And, the old office, at West 300 in the main building, has moved to West 110 on the first floor, just to the right of the elevators outside the Elkins Park Campus Library.

“There’s no change in services, everything in that area is staying the same,” said Tami April-Davis, PsyD, associate director of the Counseling Center, Elkins Park Campus. She, along with Cristina Laracuente-Trzaska, PsyD, will be the two experts staffing the center. In addition, the center is hoping to add a 20-hour-per-week licensed clinician as well as a graduate or work study student to the on-site staff.

Dr. April-Davis said the change in office location on the Elkins Park campus will provide a more discreet and private environment for those students seeking counseling. “Before, we’ve always been housed with other departments or other positions, so this new space will just be the counseling center,” said Dr. April-Davis, who has been a counselor at the Elkins Park campus for 11 years. “There is increased privacy and confidentiality afforded by the move.”

“The library is a place that most students visit, and now the Counseling Center is right there,” she said. “Students are likely to be more apt to pop in because they can physically see the center. It kind of removes any obstacles or barriers to seeking help.”

The Counseling Center, Elkins Park Campus, is committed to the personal and professional growth of students. It offers culturally informed mental health services to students in order to promote their personal and professional growth, allowing them to positively impact the future of health care, education, research, and interprofessional practice.
