Readiness Program for Incoming Students

The transition from undergraduate studies to a doctoral program can feel like a big leap. To help incoming students bridge that gap and hit the ground running with confidence, the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) launched the PCO Readiness Program. This is a structured, early engagement experience designed to support preparation before the start of the academic year.

Why This Program?

Think of this as a "pre-game" warmup before Day One.

The goal is to help each student:

  • Sharpen study habits.
  • Refresh math concepts.
  • Master effective time management strategies.
  • Reduce uncertainty entering a demanding professional program.

Before the first official day, PCO’s goal is to remove the guesswork so each student can focus on what matters: learning and growing.

Program Timeline

Starting June 1, students will receive helpful resources twice a month. Mark your calendars and look for emails on those dates.

  • June 1 and June 15
    • Program Kick-off & Foundations
  • July 1 and July 15
    • Skill-building and Strategy Development
  • July 31
    • Release of three mini-lectures from your actual fall PCO faculty!

Orientation Week Experience (starting August 10)

The program concludes in person during Orientation Week.

You’ll have a chance to:

  • Answer 45-practice questions (Day 2).
    • Provided for self-assessment and feedback only.
    • Not graded and does not impact your academic grade. It’s simply a way to see how you’re absorbing the material.
  • Meet potential future study partners in breakout groups.
  • Guidance and "insider tips" from current PCO students.
  • Enjoy some classic Philadelphia treats!

Accessing Program Materials

Starting on June 1, resources will be shared through Microsoft OneDrive.

To access these resources, students must have a working Drexel email account.

If students have not activated their Drexel email address, please complete the required matriculation steps as outlined in prior communication. Access to OneDrive and program materials is dependent on completion of this process.

Commitment to Students

PCO’s Readiness Program is all about giving you the best possible start on your doctoral journey so you can succeed from Day One.

Faculty and staff are here to support students every step of the way!
