Alondra Castro Ocasio, Audiology

Why did you choose Audiology?

Alondra holding an otoscopeMy interest in Audiology began at a young age, as I grew up surrounded by the challenges of hearing loss. Both my father and aunt experienced hearing difficulties, while I dealt with frequent ear infections and regular visits to audiologists throughout childhood. These experiences showed me how important hearing is to communication, emotional well-being, and human connection.

My decision to pursue Audiology was further inspired by an experience at a concert in Puerto Rico, where I became aware of how overwhelming and potentially harmful excessive noise can be. This sparked my interest in hearing conservation and preventing noise-induced hearing damage. I realized that Audiology combines my passion for science, healthcare, and helping others.

I chose Drexel University because of its immersive clinical experiences, hands-on learning opportunities, and access to dedicated faculty through the Pennsylvania Ear Institute (PEI). I believe Drexel’s preparation, guidance, and clinical training will help me develop the knowledge and skills necessary to become a confident and compassionate audiologist.
