Why did you choose Optometry?

Hailing from Nepal, my journey in optometry has always been driven by one simple purpose — helping people see the world more clearly.
After completing my Bachelor of Optometry, I moved to the United States to continue growing both academically and clinically. I pursued my Master’s in Clinical Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) at Drexel University, which gave me deeper exposure to modern diagnostic tools, patient care, and the U.S. clinical environment.
That experience played a major role in my decision to continue my journey here through the Advanced Placement Doctor of Optometry (APOD) at PCO’s Elkins Park campus.
For me, choosing Drexel wasn’t just about academics. It was about continuity, mentorship, and being part of an institution with a long legacy in optometric education. The program allows internationally trained optometrists like me to build on prior education and clinical experience while preparing to serve patients in the U.S. health care system.
Moving from Nepal to the United States to pursue optometry has been a journey filled with learning, adaptation, and growth. Every step — from my bachelor’s degree to my master’s and now the OD program — has strengthened my commitment to patient care and lifelong learning.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue this path at Drexel and excited for what lies ahead in serving communities through better vision care.
